lol, I don't think I actually told anyone what I do here. I'm an independent researcher developing what I like to call "Idempotent Networks", basically all the buzzwords like neural networks but they're all broken down into sub-problems and then come together for a final solution to the problem. For example, I'm working on an AI that only knows how to stop and slow down, another for steering, another for navigation, etc. And then they all come together to drive a car. Much simpler than designing 1 AI to do everything.

It's all experimental though, but I might publish my results in a blog or some shit some day.

As far as safety goes, well, I haven't hit anything yet.

Most AI is just linear algebra and optimization, so I'd go and learn how to multiply matrices/vectors, brush up on your functions, and learn a little bit about derivatives. Then just transcribe algorithms into code. Supposedly making the actual robot itself for most applications is easy, it's just getting it to do cool and interesting things is the issue. Luckily, that's all software.

Can anyone help me?

I am a pretty critical and skeptic person by nature, probably too skeptic for my own good. So I tend to find "holes" in any idea or any business I want to start, which is preventing me from actually starting. (Mostly pretty basic things such as: "it won't work out, something like this already exists", etc) Right now, I would basically only start something if it was guaranteed to work, which is impossible to know beforehand obviously.

Also there are so many directions to go in so I can't even get started and choose one thing, can anyone relate? How, if so, have you overcome that hurdle? How the fuck do I get started and what do I do?

Personal pros: I am a quick learner, I optimize everything once I get started, decently intelligent.

Cons: no special skills, unmotivated due to depression, no drive.(which could change I guess once I get results).

Well if there's a car infront of me the system did quite well. The problem was there was no one infront of me so it thought it was ok to just speed up without a limit (I didn't realize I was speeding either, but I was in the driver's seat with a kill switch incase it went like 50 mph or some stupid shit). I'm kinda poor so I can't really just attach a camera wherever it needs one but doing something like that and reading speed limit signs could work.

Issue with these is that the specifics vary wildly.
And truly, it's less about the platforms where you can find these things, and more about the things themselves. You want reputable sellers, and those don't often use platforms in the first place.

List all your objections to the idea; then research the idea. Make sure you write everything down.
See which objections can be addressed, and which can't.
Are they deal-breakers? Are they going to keep you from being profitable?
If not, start small, run some ads, do outbound and get clients before scaling up.

Good questions! I'm working on an Affiliate Marketing project right now. I'm at Stage One. Never ran a business. Never built a website. My hustle is weak. But this is the first time I had a clear vision for something. I believe this could work.

>How is everyone approaching their goals/tasks/motivation.
Off to a flaky start! Today I just wrote down some niche's but none of them really stuck yet. I got some wordpress guides, I haven't watched any yet. Did watch a few youtube videos. The niche is the current hurdle.

>Do you have a purpose of doing anything, or is it just to make any money?
Initially it was about money. And I still think "Oh man. The money if I'm successful!" But now I see the REAL opportunity. I thought affiliate marketing was all spam. I didn't fully understand it. And that is because most of these sites are selfish spammers, selling shitty stuff. Who wants a crappy book, course, or program with no substance? Hell no! That's wrong you guys.

The more I read up, the more I envision real value. It's almost like magazines in our internet era. And people read them! You could craft a lifestyle about some of your favorite interests. With pictures, videos, product reviews, guides, illustrations, or articles that get people to check out your world. And here's the kicker, even if it fails to "sell". Then at least you STILL have a brand that can be sharpened up and churned into something tangible.

>How do you stay focused?
Something I do need to discipline myself with! This one absolutely needs the most work. I quit gaming about 8 months ago. Still I find myself in the habit of watching twitch, youtube, browsing reddit and 4chan. That will be cut down next. Twitch is garbo. YT is too vast. 4chan and reddit are a problem for me.

>How do you balance other commitments like work or study?
I only work 7 hours a day and sleep 5-8 hours. Subtract 2 hours for bullshit. I honestly have no excuse NOT to be putting in a 8-12 hours daily grind.

>Do you have a purpose of doing anything, or is it just to make any money?
At first it was just to make money but the more I learn and grow the more I feel like hydroponics in general and microgreens more specifically are actually going to be huge in a couple years when the last family farms close and Monsanto owns 100% of American agribusiness
>How do you stay focused?
The few hours I work st my retail job fill me with such hatred that all I can think about is how to better my business
>How do you balance other commitments like work or study
I posted off my boss so I only work like 12-20hrs a week and my only other commitments are my wife and D&D so it all pretty well balances itself

>> No.11608850

Not kidding, but you actually need to be pretty good, and proven, to get into the mid-higher levels.
Buyer beware - it *is* hard work, and you *will* have to push pretty hard. If you don't know sales, and aren't comfortable cold-mailing and cold-calling pretty hard until you get a deal closed, this is probably not a good plan for you.

That said, you can get lucrative deals. The copy I'm writing for the sales coach guy's mastermind is a $1k base + 50% on each member's fees. Several days a month of writing (honestly, not even that, more like 16-18 hours), boom, done.

OTOH, you gotta network, you gotta learn very strong outbound marketing.

Guess it's my time to answer my own question
I'm doing a PhD in a decent field, but I don;t see myself getting a job either in academia or industry. I do part time tuition which brings a little bit of money, but it's not passive.
So I started a website with all my learning resources, where students can download them individually for free or (in the future) purchase collated and improved packs. I have also started writing algorithms for generating puzzles and putting them on Amazon as paper backs for people to buy, but I'm changing the model in a few months. I will build a website where I provide the puzzles (10 or so) for free as PDFs, but then larger amounts you can either buy from me, and print yourself, or buy from amazon and get a paperback.
So:
My purpose is to earn enough money to FIRE and spend my days looking after future kids, running a small home farm, and hiking very often. I'm in the UK, so I need about £250,000 to FIRE very cheaply, or £0.5M to do it comfortably. I'm about 6% of the way there (I track all my income and expenses).
I can't stay focused for short amount of times. If I have to be somewhere else in 3-4 hours, I can;t do anything productive until then. Which sucks, because I only have a free day on Sunday, where I can get in the zone and work for 12hours. I'm trying to fix that by timing myself doing short tasks (15/30min) and I got a small notebook to write ideas and working out in quickly when I get hit with one, but have to stay focused on another task.
Most of superior life-balancing comes from the fact that I can self delude myself into thinking it's superior. The truth is that I spend too much thinking about other commitments when doing something. I will spend hours thinking about my ventures when working at uni etc. The grass is always greener.
Hope this helps some of you

Dude, you really need to start using onenote. It really makes my day alot better. On it I have daily to-do lists and many idea-lists. Because of adhd I get constantly hit with ideas and using onenote to write them down really helps me focuse on what I should do. Onenote is also synced to my phone so I always have the ability to write down myshitty ideas. When I'm bored I go through my ideas and elaborate the ones that tingle my willy there and then. Some turns into projects, most don't. But it's very helpfull to get them out of my head. I also write my shopping list on there.

Do you think aspiring entrepreneurs should be out there hustling and flipping? That is one thing a lot of successful entrepreneurs have in common. They had a lemonade stand as kids, sold candy, they flipped sneakers or clothes, mowed lawns, even drugs. While I just enjoyed a comfy time playing video games and watching anime. Point is, my traits don't line up with what's required of success, at all.

So I did try the flipping thing. No luck. I went to Salvation Army and Goodwill, I checked out the rare garage sales I could find over the weekend. Really there was nothing worth flipping. I'd come across a DVD or videogame selling for $2-3 and it was never worth more than $3-$5, if you consider shipping and fees, that's just around break even. I have no idea what clothes are worth selling, and really almost everything that looked like a good brand, had stains on it, or were overpriced. The only thing I didn't do was checkout craigslist ads for shit. The best I could do was sell my valuables, I actually did very good with that, hell I think I have some 'talent' with marketing. I loved shooting pictures and writing detailed descriptions of my stuff including a little short sentence of why the thing I'm selling is worth your dollar.

Gary V has that whole thing about flipping and selling on ebay or amazon. How 'easy' it is to go to yardsales and get at least 3x from your finds. I didn't have much luck, but I admit I didn't grind hard enough. I believe I only committed to a half-measure, not half-assed. I feel like I SHOULD be trying harder, it's really easy if I could just find and know the value of things. I just need a better source/item value detector. Or maybe I should stay in my lan? Like flipping might just not be my or your thing?

>> No.11615013

>>11614941
One word: Research.

There are a lot of things to flip, but not everything is worth a flip.

On another note correlation≠causation. Just because most entrepreneurs flipped in their early stages doesn't mean that's the ONLY kind of mentality that leads to it. But it's a mentality synonymous with success. They get a taste of the action, they want more, they go get more. But don't put yourself down because you're not a selling prodigy.

Flipping might not be your thing, anon. But that doesn't mean you don't have a thing that could take you to where you want to be.

I wasn't a hustler at all since I started my wagie job 2 years ago. I also dabbled in reselling and eBay thrifting and got super hyped about it wanting to do it as my job. I honestly love every aspect of it, even the listing and customer service. I found some great stuff but people still didn't want to buy it. I made my money back though.
I think that mindset can be learned although the ones always hustling will probably make it and be richer than the average wagie doing it on the side. But I've heard of people waging all their lives and eventually their side hustle becomes their own business so it's not impossible. Something just has to click. Even these guys have niches though. New York thrifter has a good niche, there's guys who know cars and go to junkyard and scalp parts to resell. Some do it all by accumulating as much junk as possible like rockstarflipper. You just have to find your groove or move on and find something else. It's about doing what works for you. I've had a wagie mindset since like 2 years ago and started saving and budgeting so it just clicks sometimes.

How often does anyone win the jackpot?

How many sales do they need to hit that number? (protip: not that many)

And it's not like ticket sales slow down at any point.

At least as I understand the business model - I'm NOT an authority or knowledgable. This is guesswork.

>how do you find a niche? for future anon that wants to do affiliate marketing. did you go in Google search trends, something you love, or did you pick it out of a hat?

well let me not get ahead of myself, this is all new to me too haha. I'm still at stage 1, writing down some ideas for my niche. Then I'm gonna write down some content for the website. Then wordpress/domain/launch yaddayadda. Basically the wheels are turning but i haven't gotten anywhere yet.

So, a niche. Firstly, YouTube. I was getting a bit frustrated finding a niche so i just typed it in youtube to see some ideas. And thankfully they let you 2x speed on videos. This is a godsend for verbose influencers. This first video, already helped a ton. Niche combos, they let you take an angle, that only you can fulfill. Obviously you can translate that to a non-video niche too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sgb_9XGm56Y
This handsome looking douchebag helped a bit too. Just another way to see how other people are doing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hl9oE6Azkj0

Scour this website, it was recommended by the other link I posted. Chock full of info. It has a topic on niche's https://www.quicksprout.com/blog/

Anyway my niche kind of relates to my job. I see several problems in my industry. Since it's a bit boring and depressing to think about my job why not make it more interesting. I think I can write articles or share pictures and find solutions related to my job. And link the occasional amazon affiliate item. My thing is, even if this doesn't do anything, if I can build a rapport and community with my audience, this is the gold. Then I can still find a way to sell to them, beyond relying on amazon affiliate links. But let me not get too far ahead of myself. I still need to build the damn website.

Reading...

>most people DON'T ACTUALLY EXECUTE!
100% true, which is why any agency at all is still relevant.

>Hitting $5K in under 90 days is totally doable.
Legit. I hit $5k in first two weeks of getting into freelancing without any other source of income.

Admittedly, I'd been doing it as a side-gig beforehand, but it's still 100% doable.

>You can even hire salespeople or a sales company later on and scale it infinitely.

No, infinite scaling isn't a thing, unless you can turn EVERYTHING into systems.

As long as there's a human element involved, there's caps. Difficult to hit caps, yes, but caps nonetheless.

Personally I'd wager around $100k/ employee is a reasonable cap to assume.

>You can get started for less than $300
If you do the starting work yourself, you only need a domain name, which is like $10, and a phone number, which you can get free with Google Voice if you're in the US.

>Large profit margin - you literally set the prices
Same applies to all other services... but the thing is, you need a STRONG sales guy to actually close those $50k for a brochure website deals.

>UpWork.com
Hire pajeets to do work. Yeah, no. THIS IS WHY DIGITAL MARKETING AGENCIES ARE CONSIDERED CANCER REEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Overall, it's not a bad plan, but it skips over some elements, such as "how do I actually sell people", and "justifying higher rates".

And most importantly, he mentions accounting precisely zero times.

Running a business is far more complex than this guy says.

Nice thread. Affiliate marketer here so I thought I might contribute a tiny bit. It's easy. Get a domain name with a .com tld so it seems legit. Come up with some bullshit to blog about. Could be sports or movies, basically any normie stuff. Make a few posts, let it age for a few days then use this to apply to some affiliate programs. Try Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, whatever.
When you get accepted and get your campaign id, start making sites. Go to namecheap where domain names are less than $1 for .trade, .club, .biz and shit like that. Get some cheap VPS hosting like Linode which charges like $5 a month for the basic tier. You can pack hundreds of sites on the VPS if they're thin enough, i.e., not wordpress.
When you have all that, look for some content you can steal. Doesn't matter where it comes from as it'll fly for a few months no matter what before you get de-indexed from Google. The key is volume. Make a bunch of sites and put your affiliate links in them. The affiliate links should be attached to something a user is likely to click in and want to buy. So a auto parts site should have pics of alternators and shit which when clicked lead to Amazon or wherever.
The key is automate the shit out of this and get paid. Takes about 2 or 3 months for the money to start rolling in but when it does you'll thank me.
Here's a link to a thread I OP'd a year or two ago right here on /biz/. I'm still getting paid doing the exact same thing.

I do about everything for the affiliate stuff in Python and selenium. It's beautiful. For the record doing this with volume pretty much requires programming for the automation stuff. It's a non-starter without that. If one were to try to make actual legitimate quality sites, that could be a different story but I wouldn't know anything about that haha.

>programming?
I had about 10 years experience building sites, Android apps, sys-admin stuff, you name it. But don't let that discourage you if you don't know a variable from a loop. With affiliate marketing, the key is to perfect your system and everybody's system is different. Do it all by hand at first and find something that works and by works I mean it costs a dollar a month and makes $1.10. Find that and then scale it with automation. The hard part is the system. Programming is relatively easy.
When you find what works for you and you're like, "I could make $$x1000 if I could automate it" then you know you're ready and most importantly you'll know exactly what you need to automate. As far as technologies you'll probably find Python useful to glue everything together. If you go wordpress you should learn some PHP. Also a passing familiarity with Html/css/javascript will be good. Python first though and you'll get it down in a couple of months in parallel with working out your system. After you learn Python, PHP etc. is a walk in the park as you're just taking what you already know and translating it to a new syntax.
>>11627705
>scrape and post
Yeah, pretty much. If you want to get fancy, you can spin the content with Markov chains or whatever but in my experience it doesn't matter. Google is nowhere NEAR as smart as their marketing and fanboys claim so you'll fly under the radar for a few months and after that it doesn't matter as the money is already made.

I used to use wordpress but ended up making my own framework that just does exactly what I need no more and no less. That way I can host it much more cheaply. When you do this a while you'll get a feel for what matters and if you have the ability you can streamline everything for an exact fit. As far as exact site content, I don't want to go too deep cuz we all need to do this a little differently so we can all win but it has images, ads, and lots of text to attract Google. You gotta have something on there Google can read and say "yep, this is a site about Ugg boots and searchers should definitely come here". The pics are mostly for the human visitors like "Oh cool those boots are fresh!" *click*

You can very successfully do affiliate by just running a newsletter. All you need to do is get names (usually with a freebie on the topic you'll be covering), and then send daily emails that educate, entertain and engage your audience.

And then... "Here's one of my buddies, you might want to consider his offer, it's really good!"

I usually stick with the big boys like eBay, Amazon, that ilk as they have everything and when one niche gets played out, there are plenty of options for the next one. If you want a good source for smaller operations to partner with though, I'd suggest checking out http://shareasale.com/ You can look for diy type sites and apply right on the spot. Guaranteed you'll find something.
>>11628534
>bannable content
I can only speak from personal experience but I have been using 100% scraped content for years and have never once had a problem with any affiliate program and I know for a fact some of my sites have been manually reviewed. If there's something they don't like, it'll be explicitly spelled out in their TOS. Think stuff like misrepresenting yourself like claiming you actually are eBay or Amazon or even implying that is the case. Or even worse, something blatantly illegal like cookie stuffing. That will get you banned in a heartbeat and possibly legally liable. Again, speaking for me, I do a ton of grey hat stuff like cloaking, scraping content, etc. but I never do anything that violates criminal law or violates the TOS of whoever I'm an affiliate for. Occasionally I get a nastygram from somebody complaining about one of sites, maybe the URL is too similar or whatever. No problem, I immediately take the site down and move on. I've never received anything regarding copyrighted content but bear in mind due to my business model my sites tend to be ephemeral. If I had an operation going where sites were up for years and really started ranking high for big traffic keywords, that would probably get some attention but as it is, I've never had a problem.

>skills
Missed this the first read through. At first the only skill you need is the ability to get a web site up and running. You can use wordpress or whatever and sign up with a shared host to put it on. You don't even need programming experience at first since with wordpress you can just type your content in using the editor. The key in the beginning is find something that works and makes a little money. When you figure that out, you'll know what aspect of the operation needs to scale which will naturally suggest what kind of programming you'll need to learn. Most likely you'll find Python, PHP, and web stuff useful. But don't get hung up on that. Focus your efforts on getting a website up, getting accepted into your affiliate program of choice and getting your links on your site so people have something to click on. You can even write your own content at first. Just ease into the whole thing. When you start getting them $$, you'll have a clue what's next.

>content structure
My personality informs my perspective on this. I'm "min-maxer". People hated me when I played D&D and Pathfinder back in the day cuz all I wanted to do was create characters that would break the game. I didn't care about the storyline or what the objective was or the narrative, I just wanted a character that did maximum damage and had max survivability. If I was the rogue, I alway dual wield for maximum sneak attack. If not a rogue, I was an archer with an enchanted bow for maximum long range damage, etc. Never a bespoke "oh this is cool" character.
My approach to AM is exactly the same. I want traffic and I couldn't care less how many search "engineers" hate me for how I exploit their system to get it. That's what you live and die from. And Google is the source. My content matches as closely as possible what I think Google is looking for the day the site is put up. It might not make any sense at all to a person reading it but it has the exact mix of keyword, links, product description, etc. that maximizes the chances of Google putting me higher on the SERP page. And that's it.
As it stands, Google is stupid as fuck. It's just a machine, an algorithm. It does a statistical analysis of your content and decides what it "thinks" your content is about and matches that to the type of sites certain searched for keywords give the best metrics, i.e., lowest bounce rate. They measure other stuff too like responsive design, speed, etc. but we're talking content here. My sites have an insane bounce rate but I don't care cuz the people that click through more than make up for it. And when a site is toast, i.e., deindexed, I have a thousand more right behind it.
That works for me.

Completely generic crap with no basis in reality but enough to look real. When you apply for a program, they'll want to see your website and that's what you show them.
