ethereum supporters will keep using high level language to explain what it does, and wont be able to convince the public of its usefulness.

News organizations wont publish articles containing statements like:

"The purpose of a consensus algorithm, in general, is to allow for the secure updating of a state according to some specific state transition rules, where the right to perform the state transitions is distributed among some economic set."

In the meantime, banks will develop their own ez2use funbucks on blockchain technology, and pay billions for news hype. Then the world is owned by banks even more than before.

I dont want this scenario. please convince me this wont happen.

>I dont want this scenario. please convince me this wont happen.

This whole technology started because no one likes banks. The blockchain is essentially their job which is being replaced, bookkeeping and money creation.

Yes, they're going to start using blockchain technology (because they'll be forced to adapt) but that's essentially going to make the bank a blockchain with a human frontend (local branches and such).

And for this service you're going to pay extra. Tie in competition between coins and what do you have?.. Yup, that's right. Their blockchain will essentially be reduced to a shitcoin.

It's probably going to be much worse than this when you consider every bank is just a subsidiary of the national currency/government.. But anywho, that's another discussion.

How?

Ethereum is asic proof.

Only a further 15 million coins are available before the switch to proof of stake.

Even if a mining farm were to invest a huge amount in graphics cards and mined ALL the rest of the POW coins they would not accumulate enough to run a 51% attack under POS. And all the rest of the coins are already far too well distributed.

Once POS is instituted, running a 51% attack would mean accumulating 51% of all ETH. Something that would be prohibitively expensive as the price of ETH would rise and rise if undergoing massive accumulation by one entity.

You retard keep going on about this disregarding that the whole point of ethereum is decentralization. Why would a bank increase their costs in developing this new thing from the ground up AND buying the hardware to support the nodes they would need when doing so defeats the purpose of the technology?

>> No.1154898

>>1151322
>>1154888

Agreed that banks trying to centralize blockchain goes against what the creators had in mind. However, people trust banks more than they claim. Otherwise, we would all keep our savings as gold.

That unspoken trust of banks is a major reason most people haven't "taken the plunge" from banks to something new like bitcoin yet.

It's reasonable to assume that if people choose banks OVER bitcoin or owning gold, then they would follow banks INTO bitcoin technology, at least initially. Maybe eventually the whole appeal of decentralization will kick in, but it will be a slow process like 10 years minimum. Ethereum may come and go in that time.

There is money that can be made at the start, middle, and end of bubbles as well as bullish securities. There is money to be made on the most stable and the most volatile securities.

Telling people to not play is telling them to not do business at all. Nobody plays if they're too conservative to make money.
