red week edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

If you are daytrading, do whatever you will...

But keep in mind: The Bull market is dead. It died the 2nd of February - and it's death was confirmed the 3rd of october - DJ 23K is the absolut MINIMUM goal. Could go much deeper than that. Remember when the stock market more than halfed from october 2007 to early 2009 - the world did not end. Everything was business as usual - I guess average people did not even notice.

My stuff isn't doing anything interesting right now so I figured I'd have a look at /smg/ tech stock of choice AMD for a quick T&A. Pic related.

>bear break off the bull trap pattern
>50 day SMA broken
>first support at 24.55 broken
>second support around $20-20.30 or so
>third support $17
>daily RSI 36
>heavy sell volume today
>stoch RSI and CCI are hovering on the low range

Look for new support to form between level 1 and level 2 or a drop to test level 2. Bounce play may be in effect on Monday, or perhaps more likely when the daily RSI goes sub 30 (one more big red candle would do it). Long term you're probably looking at seeing if the 100 day SMA at current level of 21.70 holds.

Canopy Rivers. New listing, dropped, established support and hovering slightly above support currently.

Acreage Holdings due to list on the CSE some time after November 6th. Be very careful about what sort of opening price happens. If things get too excited it could do the same as RIV did and dump for a couple weeks.

Tetra BioPharma as they are late stage in clinicals on their lead med and could drop success news before end of year. Careful about the chart. It's a small cap and all risk factors associated with small cap biopharma are in play.

Also make sure to get some safe ETFs that you can hold long term. Make sure a good part of your portfolio is in UVXY and/or TVIX and just forget about it for a few years. Those are both at the bottom of their cycle and are pretty much guaranteed to rise greatly in value over the next decade. Also long TSLA and any Chinese companies you can find, preferably ones that have had recent IPOs. NIO, IQ, SOGO, etc are all great value.

Seconded on this. 1k is enough that it'll sting to lose, so you'll get the psychological effects as part of the learning experience. Paper trading for practice is all well and good but you don't really learn much if it doesn't hurt when things go bad or give euphoria when things go well.

That's where you are wrong. The Globalfoundries example shows that this kind of tech isn't easily transferable (hopefully not, I wouldn't have such a good job otherwise). just put money in the big indicies if you're worried about "losing money". Also you never lose money if you don't sell. It's literally that simple. Defense sector and the bigs like Microsoft/apple/IBM in the tech sector have great dividends. Just save every month and try and buy a share or 2 of any one of those monthly if you absolutely have to see money coming in. At the end of the day, unless you're day trading(and really good at it) you won't be seeing easy money. That's also a simplicity of investing in the markets.

I don't like this meme. That kind of thing lead me to long hodl losing positions for way too long just so I could say I didn't sell to realize the loss. Opportunity cost was significant. I could have cut my losses early and traded other better things in that time.

It's not a meme. It's literally the way it works. You only pull out and buy back in 20 years down the road, whereever we're at in the cycle. It's really not complicated. You could argue the "hold till the next high, sell, and buy back in" mentality, but that can become convoluted and costly, especially when you get caught up in selling on the way down. Stocks go down faster than they go up, but they almost always go up more than they go down. My portfolio, your portfolio, and his portfolio will look different over the course of the years. As long as you aren't dumb enough to sell everything at the low when you're 50 years old, holding is the safe bet.

China’s numbers are wrong. They have a workshop economy and nobody really knows what their true GDP is. They can’t count this shit and are basically guessing. When you have 10,000 people who make a product in their garages and send it upstream to distributors, you have no clue really. And the data flow works the same way. Every little town records their own data and sends it to the next rung, and it goes through a dozen rungs before it reaches central gov. This is like USA town boards recording GDP for their town and sending it to the city, who sends it to the county, to the state, to the fed. Shit way of doing it. And they all fudge the #s so they don’t get canned.

Sure. One addendum note to add to my T&A if you're fairly new to using support/resistance levels for price analysis; if a support breaks, it can, and usually (but not always) does, convert in to a new resistance on the swing back up. Which is to say, if you see a support level break followed by a bounce that rejects at that same level, the price is most likely to break downwards again. This idea works both ways, in that a broken resistance can become a new support on a rising trend.
