You faggots don't understand.
Banks all around Europe/US/Asia have huge investments in foreign currencies like Turkey, Argentina, etc. Major banks in Europe already underwater because of this. They might have to be forced to liquidate all positions to avoid a potential bear market. DOW just faced a huge double top and some major sell off, the worst in 8 months in a fucking week. The worst in the last 48 hours.

You faggots are probably zoomers into ChainLink and have zero recollection on the aftermath of 2008.

You vastly underestimating the value of a "side game" though. This was extremely effective method for a lot of people to buy the dip on the stock market. That alone is a major reason to be holding crypto in case something like this happens again. On top of that, they sold at a loss overall as crypto is likely to recover as weak hands have been long shaken out of the crypto space this year. One whale can jump the price of every coin back up with a nice bart and everyone who went back to fiat will be forced to buy back in at a higher price.

Side games are no joke.

This isn't a recession, but it's a good trial run.

We're fucked essentially. Obama pulled the US economy from underwater by lowering interest rates and running up the national debt with his baillouts. If he hadn't been such a pussy he would have pushed financial reforms, but he used up all his political capital on healthcare, and after 2010 the republicans in congress wouldn't agree with him to pass a bill saying grass is green. I'm sure he had a notion that his successor would be a fiscal conservative who would lower the deficit and gradually raise interest rates in tandem.

Instead, we got The Donald, who apparently understands macroeconomics about as well Homer Simpson does nuclear physics. The national debt is getting HUGE because of military gibme's and tax cuts, which means the US is not going to have to make enormous payments on that debts interest, shrinking the cash pile that saved us in 2008. Now that's usually not a problem, but since the interest rates are raised by the fed, American's have less free cash than ever which makes the stock market stagnate and wages decline. ON TOP OF THAT we have a trade war with China and have spat on the EU and NAFTA, which means that products are getting more expensive, so cost of living is going to increase.

We are entering a perfect storm and a monkey is at the wheel. Just remember to keep one in the clip for yourself.

it is, but this is a result of more than just the rate increase. Keep in mind the .25% hike was made on 9/19, near a month ago. Not only that, but the increase brings the rate only to 2.25%, which is still stupid low

What concerns me is that when the next recession hits, the fed won't be able to do jack shit. Keep in mind that the rate was 3.5% at the start of 2008. Where does the fed go if shit hits the fan and they need to dramatically lower rates, if rates are already pretty low?

Just because someone was able to afford to pay the debt "at the time" doesn't mean they were able to afford it forever. A job loss can result in their mortgaged home being repossessed.

The interest rate was really low because of the '08 recession. Banks/credit lenders have been loaning money out like candy at INTEREST FREE rates (there are credit cards that give you 0% interest for 2 years).

There are alot of factors too - like the trade war, oil prices, overbought stock market ...etc. All of these things are a sign of an upcoming recession.

From 2009 to 2015, deficit has always shrinked. Sure, it was high, but the US was barely recovering from 2008, and the deficit was shrinking every year because deficit spending wasn't needed anymore. In 2015, unemployement was already around 4%, which is pretty healthy for an economy.
Then Trump arrived. Now, deficit is rising every year (400 billions in 2015, 500 in 2016, 650 in 2017 and now 850 in 2018), since unemployement was already low now inflation is up to 3%. Trump is doing exactly what Greeks did in the years prior to 2008.
And now the stocks went up to their ATH only to blow up yesterday because the FED is doing its job.

Therefore, the banks who had their money in stocks realize it's more profitable to buy US debt, and dump their stocks to buy more.
