Heard about it and got interested around 2011/2012. Even downloaded the mining software but the technical aspects were way too confusing for me so I just never bothered mining. Back in high school I was shopping on Amazon using the TOR browser. Thinking nothing of the .25 BTC I never transferred back(even though I didn't even have a private wallet). I easily bet I lost at least 2 BTC. But I've lost tons of money in the past so fuck it.

back then Bitcoin trade could be so much interesting than it is right now...
Cause the trading will be more based by the cost of mining it.
Maybe for some people back then, cost it $0.10 to mine each bitcoin so they will be selling at $0.20 or even more.
And other people mine it for less than $0.005 because they were living in a subsidized country like China, so they were be selling it for less than 0.01.
I mean bitcoin could be like trading without the rules of the market.
So sad I didn't see that

A decade ago I was browsing /g/ and found a thread about the TED Talk about decentralization which was about Bitcoin. That video was informative and got me interested in blockchain technology. Back then I had a really shit laptop and thought it was fun to mine funny internet money.
I earned about a few bitcoin and saved it in a secure wallet which was stored in a flash drive until I met a person online who convinced me to store them on Mt Gox. And that's how I stopped caring about this until a few years later and got back into mining. I was on litecoin and mined 10 in a year but the pool exit scammed out. Again I jumped out.
I came back recently and bought in. Started with 1. 2k and so far im above 900

my point is the grow to take crypto to half a million market cap is the same growth that took it from 250 to 15k

you can look at that as a positive or negative depending on your outlook, but it is always going to be harder to push a 100 billion dollar market cap up to a few trillion than it is to push a sub-billion market cap.

if thats your goal crypto is still on for you. you can still easily make out with a few hundred thousand dollars if youre willing to accept 10-20x gains on the large coins like btc/eth over the next 5 or so years.

We would always talk about this shit at werk. One guy I also went to uni with had really shitty economy after that shit, he already had a home and family and shit so well imagine your self, takes an enormous economic toll then to go take a degree.

anyways must have been 2011-2012, he bought btc for next to nothing, still had to go on irc then, to buy shit like vpn and so.

man that guy almost got a meltdown when it then hit 1k$ in 2013? I haven't seen him in a couple of years now though, but I can almost hear him scream all the way up where I have moved now
>WHHHYYYYY???
>WHYYY DID I BUY THAT VPN AND OTHER CRAP

Early 2012, me and my roommate got paid in BTC for mining blocks on a Minecraft server.

Have no fucking clue how to get a hold of them now, I didn't even know what crypto really was or the potential it had at the time. Had a few hundred before getting bored and playing something else for a while.

im generally pessimistic of people thinking they're going to find 100x-1000x gains from here on out unless they're willing to wait half a lifetime to get them, but 10-20x is well within the realm of possibility in the medium to long term, and is all but expected given that we're already 3x down from the peak, making that only a 5-6x gain on the ATH.

but for this to happen it can't be from speculators, we're going to need to see actual progress on scaling and integration with traditional instruments or traditional merchants.

Agreed, there needs to be a solid narrative (or at least a large enough illusion of it) for the next explosion of growth. Considering BTC did around 40x in 2017 here's to hoping there's still some life in the speculation to keep things afloat for now though
