Every mistake that's happened in my time working here has been because a higher up who doesn't know what they're doing interrupts what I was going to do and tells me to do it the way they say, or when they don't provide enough information or listen to my recommendations.

It's a Performance Improvement Plan.

So basically it's essentially a written warning to let a subordinate know they're fucking up but instead of just a simple reprimand it's focused on correcting the behavior in a positive manner.

So for example if a Guard would let his appearance slide (and he wasn't getting it that he shit needed to be fixed because perception is everything) I would draw up a PIP. Address the issue, when it happened, what needs to be fixed, and then a later date when we would follow up as well as consquences if they failed to do so. Then you both sign it so that they understand.

A lot of people call it "The first step you getting fired" but that only really applies to chuckleheads who fuck up consecutively.
