I assume you’re trying to negotiate through texts/phone call. You’ll have much better luck meeting the guy in person and then talking about the price. Then you’ll have more leverage because you can actually physically see what you’re buying.
Whenever I sell car stuff on Craigslist I ignore all replies that start off with “will you take X amount instead??” and only deal with people who seem interested enough to come meet meet me face to face and who don’t start off the conversation with an insultingly low offer.
A bit of friendliness goes a long way. When someone seems like a good person I give them a better deal. Some guy showed up to my house to buy an engine and was acting like a total jackass and tried offering me $300 which I declined, $400 which I declined, and $450 which I declined until he finally gave me the $500 that I initially asked for. Had he come off as a cool guy instead of an asshole I would have goals it for $350

Yeah. You’re buying rims and tires? Meet up wit the guy, take a look at what he’s selling, point out some little imperfections, and make him a counteroffer. Don’t act like you’re too interested in them either, you want him to think that you’re prepared to walk away empty handed. He’ll be more likely to accept your offer
