>be me
>graduate with a STEM degree
>couldn’t get a job for months so decided to bite the call center pill
>mfw have to answer 60 calls an hour to meet the quota or I get axed
>If we do 100 calls an hour apparently we get a 2% pay rise. But this is just bait because those who actually try to do 100 calls an hour burnout by the day and quit by the end of the week
>mfw intentionally cut calls short just to meet the quota (even though it’s forbidden, no one actually checks the logs)
>9/10 of all calls are by people who don’t read the FAQ on our website
>get mad and sweared at when I tell them that everything is explained on the FAQ on the website
>mfw set time slots for when we can go to the toilet or not
>if it’s for a shit, often told to hold it until the next time slot unless it’s diarrhoea tier
>come back home late at 11pm, watch some anime and fap myself to sleep hoping I don’t wake up the next morning

What STEM degree specifically? Hate this meme of treating all of STEM as an easy meal ticket. Lots of undergraduates in STEM aren't worth much, especially if you don't go to a prestigious school.

Physics

Don’t fall for the pure science meme unless you plan to do a PhD in it

I should have done something more practical like engineering but too late now. I’m just hoping I die in an accident to work

There's the problem. All you have to do is to optimize the FAQ, create some tutorial videos and figure out how to reach your audience before they think about calling you. Depending on the agegroup the younger the more they tend to search online first before writing or calling.

If you can help them cut their calls by utilizing your STEM powers and optimize the customer experience overall you will be able to put that on your resume plus you might as well get promoted if you take your results after ~6-12 Months and talk to a decision maker or depending on the size of the company even the founder

I agree, i have a degree in chemistry and its fucking useless if you don't want to be stuck in the wagecage that is a lab or don't have a passion for the subject.

For some fucking reason I though science and tech were connected when they really aren't. I think CS would have been a lot less complicated and with more job prospects. I imagine physics is probably even worse

You need to get a graduate degree. Doesnt have to be a physics PhD, but an undergrad in pure physics with a more practical masters would show you to be pretty well rounded. asuming you did well in undergrad and have some at least mediocre connections with your professors, I'm sure they could put in a good word for you. Plus on your resume you could even spin your call-cucking experience into a weird quasi gap year of "gaining industry experience" or some other bs before going back to school.

They are connected. Universities just teach the basics and a good portion of uoutdated and unnecessary stuff. All you have to do is to get into business and look at problems from a practical perspective. In tihs case you will need some programming skills. I'd suggest starting either at https://www.datacamp.com/ or treehouse.

The best advice is to find a mentor. That is somebody who already achieved what you want to achieve. good luck in your endeavours, my friend!

The best way would be to not getting into any bs and just trying things out. Take a break for one,two hell even 3 years. unless you're rushing to get married and have kids, there is nothing to rush for. if you're not 30 you still have room to experiment around and look where you fit and what work you hate that you eventually end up loving. also read some good business books and build your personal brand

Call center jobs suck, even working retail is better than that. Switch to retail for short term.

Now start learning web development, enroll in a bootcamp, and actually get a job that’s in demand. Build up a portfolio and work on your interviewing skills.

i work in call center and have to take 60 calls per day... an hour sounds impossible, do you even talk with the people or is it just NPCs calling in to check if you are at your workplace?

Meh, ended up wagecucking for 3 years, 2 of which were pretty cushy then starting my own biz so it all sort of worked out.

I'm not cut out for working for other people and just filling out a role so probably would have hated programming day in and day out.

Correct about mentorship, that really applies to any industry tho.

Just graduating this semester after switching from computer engineering to biochemistry after rage quitting a java class. One of the worst mistakes I ever made. There’s no chemistry jobs even remotely around my area that don’t require a PhD or 10 years of experience and I’ve burnt out and regret it too much. Trying my best to just stay positive, but god damn is it weighing on me

Why don't you guys go to grad school? I have a Chem degree too. I was gonna go but decided to take a year to get industry experience which turned into a year of unemployment

Contemplating going back but idk anymore. I'm so disappointed in myself because I always did very well I'm school without studying and was generally a lot smarter than my peers and now I'm just watching them all surpass me, even some simple highschool grads.

I hope I get hit by a truck

It doesn’t fucking matter. Intelligence only matters when it’s applied. Get a skill that’s actually in demand. Solving stochiometry equations and performing titrations or whatever the fuck it is you do is not in demand.

actually the most important lesson of our time. people confuse intelligence with education and especially intelligent people fall for this trap, genuinely needing a degree as validation for their already-existent intelligence.

OP, you're Pinnochio who just realized you're turning into a braying jackass, because you spend too much time on Please Island.

You have to escape the island, the only way is to follow your consciousness and just into the watery chaos surrounding you. You can return home, if you like, but you won't find your metaphorical father there - meaning you won't find a father figure (whether literal or figurative) to tell you what you have to do. You have to figure that out yourself. How you do that is to figure out what your ideal life is and begin striving towards it. The first step is to face exactly the thing you don't want to face.
