Firstly, define overpriced hardware. The miner DOES NOT cost 1 BTC. On May 24th for example the rebate was that you get 0.9 BTC worth of skycoins back. So the price that you actually paid for the miner was about $750. I buildt a DIY miner for about 500€. So the miner isn't actually that much overpriced since they earn like 2x more rewards than DIY nodes.
