There is no balance because the block have not caught up to the point where you bought your monero. Do you remember the date more or less? Go into debug and diplay the blocks and it should show you the date it's up to. When the blocks catch up to your purchase date, your balance will show. you should alway save a copy of your wallet.dat file on a thumb drive or several and encrypt them. put them someplace safe (in a safe)

Same thing happened to me.

You need to make sure you're using the updated client from at least version 0.12, and then re-download the entire blockchain from that point.

There was a fork at 0.11/0.12, and your client has blocks on the wrong chain. You need to prune those, and re-download the 'correct' ones.

Or dl the entire blockchain again, but pruning is faster.
