Its a fairly simple premise. Socialism only works when the individual considers the society they live in to be an extended family. It requires high trust and a work ethic.

When someone believes that their leaders and country are acting in their best interest they are willing to work hard. Its a natural extension of the family unit. People aren't just working for themselves they are working for their family and the country that helps their family prosper.

When the fruits of your labors are going to people that aren't willing to work, aren't even from your nation and are constantly committing crimes and popping out children to siphon money away from your family and those like it then it all breaks down.

Socialism can work it just requires a lot of trust which you will not find outside of homogeneous states.

In an honest society it's advantageous to be dishonest (from a purely selfish perspective), the problem is you don't want to get caught and marked as dishonest, but since everybody is honest, it's relatively easy to get away with shit and if there's a disagreement with an honest individual, the honest individual can only defend himself with honesty, the dishonest individual can use honesty and dishonesty to push things his way. I don't know, imagine there's a child as a witness, the honest guy expects an honest telling of what happened, the dishonest one can threaten the kid or confuse him. Once dishonesty becomes advantageous, maybe other people start noticing it and it can be hard to punish it in a way that scales. And at some point it's possible to cross a threshold where certain truths are just inconvenient to honest actors, they have to keep their mouth shut or be punished. This is where I hit a wall, once the illusion has been broken, how the fuck does it get fixed besides letting tensions rise and war? I feel it's inevitable for the initial ideal state to get corrupted in not that many generations, because of contact with other nations or young people with their own ideas, infiltration...
