I have also talked to both engineering teams about each project and they are both interested in what the other is doing and they are just taking a slightly different approach to get there.

Neither are vaporware and honestly DAG is a little farther along since they don't have to code the network to have massive on chain compute, they are building that as a Dapp on top.
