What is the best country to buy gold?

I have about 20,000$ (CAD) I'd like to invest in gold. Ultimately, I don't want to pay tax on it and want to get the smallest premium rate possible. Any anons got some advice? Also, I'm not looking for jewelry. Just coins (don't think 20$ could buy me any larger).

After a couple of google searches, it seems like Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and Thailand are the best places.

I'm 75% down on crypto

crypto can go eat shit for all I care. I've still 2x my initial investment but I could've easily done that with stocks as well I think it's time to buy a safe investment

considering how strong the US dollar is right now and how the world finance system looks like it's on the verge of imploding due to protectionism slowing down growth everywhere, I think it's a good time to buy some.

What do you mean what country, and what tax? Just buy in the country you live in.

Any .999 fine gold is tax free to purchase in Canada. Also in Canada, any coin bought/sold under $1,000, the buy/sell both become $1000 for capital gains purposes meaning no taxes to report to the CRA. This is why I'm buying 1/4oz gold personally, the extra premium compared to 1oz is less than potential capital gains tax.

Would it be smarter to buy gold bullion or to just buy highly valuable collectible gold coins? They would be way easier to carry around but any damage to them will hurt their value significantly.

Unless you are very knowledgeable (and you are not since you're even asking) about coin collecting, do not buy gold coins that have numismatic value as a key component of their price. Buy simple gold bullion coins (American Gold Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, Austrian Philharmonics, Australian Kangaroos) or gold bullion bars (PAMP Suisse, Credit Suisse, etc.)

The last major gold boom in the late 1970s up to the early 1980s saw all sorts of hucksters tricking people into buying grossly overpriced collectible gold coins.

One reason some people give for buying numismatic coins is because coins with collectible value were exempt from FDR's confiscation of gold in 1934. If you're really that worried about having the government confiscate your gold, buy a stock like PHYS, GLD, or use a company that sells allocated bullion stored in countries like Switzerland (I use BullionVault).

This is how I do it. Easier and faster than buying gold bars. Unless shtf and there is no more internet to trade the gold back in for fiat.

Buying from dealers in my experience is asking to get raped-I buy from private owners looking to sell at coin shows and such.
