It looks like Elon actually fucked himself. It's hard to believe that he would make such a dumb mistake, but the board issued a statement that was extremely neutral and only affirmed that Elon suggested the go private last week. They didn't confirm there was funding, and in fact their only confirmation that Elon had spoken about it a week ago would heavily imply that there was no indication of funding having been secured, and it is unlikely that funding for the largest LBO in history would be hashed out in a week without any of the major banks seemingly able to confirm it or their rumors coming from their desks.

And now there is an SEC investigation into it. If Elon actually was so petty as to assure massively lucrative litigation against his company just to spite shorts, I'm convinced the dude has a personality disorder.

Maximal pain for himself maybe. If there is no funding it seems highly likely he is going to be fucked by some very angry rich people. The fact the board is being calm and issuing really bland statements that just confirm they had talked about it last week seems to be interpreted by a lot of the financial people on twitter as them trying to limit their liability. Basically, "Elon is doing this all on his own, we were not complicit in him making that announcement".

I don't follow news on Tesla, but from what I've seen in the past day of twitter insanity over it the board isn't considered impartial because of all of its connections to Musk, so proper procedure for going private would have also included appointing a separate independent committee to handle some of the process. Along with all the normal filing that goes with this stuff (I'm really not knowledgeable on the process, I'm just reading hot takes from finance people on social media). What I'm reading is that the lack of most of this, and the lack of knowledge among the big banks of any deals for funding, would seem to suggest Musk did coke off of Grimes ass and in a stupor decided to post 420 blaze it on twitter.

but honestly, there are better gambles to take than ERs imo in term of options. one of my favorite gambles to take when im bored is to buy ITM options on slow moving, ETFs (w liquid options markets) that frequently gap up and down overnight (but not by much, ie <+/-1%). you buy at closing bell, then sell at opening bell. just if youre ITM, DO NOT LET IT GO OTM. you will lose a lot of money

some of my favorites in this regard are GLD for gold, TLT for bonds, and USO for oil. if youre new to intraday trading speculatively on commodities, i suggest trying SLV and USO, as their greeks are much more pleasant and easy to manage and the contracts are quite cheap. even though youre ideally only in the trade overnight, its still worth it to buy 1month long contracts at least. but by buying deep enough ITM, you will have less theta to worry about, less vega, and also you will actually make more money per contract due to having higher deltas. my sweet spot is 70+ deltas, but you should prolly start smaller.

just whatever you do, DONT TRY THIS W REAL MONEY YET. try papertrading it for a couple months.

but i used to make decent lunch money doing this w SLV back when it was ranging predictably. ive also made LOTS of money doing this w bonds. its a lot of fun. even w commodities being manipulated, theyre still more predictable than ERs imo

Something weird is happening. Suddenly all the cannabis investing forums are talking about Tetra BioPharma. I expected some chatter due to the breakout but this is something else. Other tickers making similar gains currently, such as CVSI, have not received this much talk.

Come on mainstream media, run a story about how TBP is in clinical trials to develop a cannabis based alternative to fentanyl. You know you want to. Use those long noses and smell the profits here. Possible drug in late stage clinical trial that could help with the opioid crisis? Yes. That's clickbaity. Lots of clicks for u. Yes.

Yes.

I don't know about harvest. Most of the growers are greenhouse based and work on a rotating schedule without set harvest dates like other outdoor grown crop stocks have.

It also depends on the business model of the companies you're invested in, what their forecasts for supply are for recreational sales rollout in October, whether they expect to be over or under supplied to meet demand, etc. Pharmaceutical companies like Tetra run on completely different set of factors; clinical trial results, qualifying for Drug Identification Numbers (DINs).

One thing to watch out for this month is quarterly earnings reports. Canopy Growth's next earnings report is August 14th and I don't expect the numbers to look good. I will probably sell the day before to protect my gains on that one, wait for the dust to settle, and perhaps re-enter position when things look good for it.

Anyway I have to say Elon is doing this beautifully. I didn't understand the timing till I learned he has 4 business days to respond to the SEC inquiry.

Rate my theory /smg/

Musk makes the announcement on Twitter because it's his preferred form, and because it would generate hype much faster than a normal email.
Why generate hype? Most companies slow-roll on their buyout efforts to keep the costs down. Unless... he wanted the price to spike and he needed to make it happen fast. Barely an hour before that announcement, articles from the Financial Times said Saudis bought <5% stake in Musk. That just happens to be under the amount they legally have to report. The only reason we seem to know it was Saudis is through leaks from "knowledgable people". Saudis have an explicit goal to diversify and have funded electric vehicle companies in the past. Maybe the Saudis are his "secured funds" source. Maybe this deal is a way for the Saudis to solve Musk's debt problem/secure their oil future by controlling EV's future. They get a big equity stake, Musk gets to avoid all the public trading headaches and avoids the risk of crashing before they can pay off any debt.

If Musk made the price jump right after that leaked, he may have done it to keep the big money in the U.S. from buying up a big stake and price-gouging him with a "no" vote to the $420 figure, since they know the Saudis can foot the bill.

Fidelity will vote to go private as they did with SpaceX, more than likely. That, along with Musk's friends and the Saudis, puts Musk in roughly the +35% "yes" range before it even hits the markets. Tencent has a vested interest in a healthier private Tesla, or at the very least as far away from U.S. interests as possible. 40%. Past that, he could likely pull the last 11% out of the remaining portion of the market with Saudis buying up votes and his diehards sticking with him. With the way he's been acting, I wouldn't be surprised if T. Rowe wants to cash out, its not the first time they've thought about it.

Ask yourself, if Elon wanted to hurt shorts, why would he do it in such a dumb fucking way? You know how you fuck shorts? You keep this thing quiet, let the stock drop, let them over extend then one day after hours or right at the end of the trading day you hit them with the announcement and the 8K. The stock price jumps to 420 instantly and they get margin calls immediately which drives the price even higher. I think this was Elon's plan but he miscalculated. He thought people would believe him, panic and the positive feedback loop of covering would send the stock into the stratosphere... but the short wall held strong and said "Show me the money!"

history lesson, always know history if you are invested in a stock

https://www.inc.com/business-insider/elon-musk-had-an-$-11-billion-deal-in-place-with-google.html

In the first week of March 2013, Musk reached out to [Google chief Larry Page], say the two people familiar with the talks.

By that point, so many customers were deferring orders that Musk had quietly shut down Tesla’s factory.

Considering his straits, Musk drove a hard bargain. He proposed that Google buy Tesla outright--with a healthy premium, the company would have cost about $6 billion at the time--and pony up another $5 billion in capital for factory expansions. He also wanted guarantees that Google wouldn’t break up or shut down his company before it produced a third-generation electric car aimed at the mainstream auto market. He insisted that Page let him run a Google-owned Tesla for eight years, or until it began pumping out such a car.

Page accepted the overall proposal and shook on the deal.

83%max 50% real vs 99%. This doesn't even play a role in adoption. It also doesn't play out the way you think. Include the power plant in the loop and tally up the score again. 50% real vs 33-50% real HFCVs come out ahead.

The price of the stock is something completely different that the actual company.

Even if they didn't need at least 2 billion of cash EOY just to keep the lights on, there are like 100 EVs coming on market next year that are superior to Tesla in every way.

Let me help you NEETs and stockfags understand why a Tesla take private is extremely doable.

169.79 MM shares outstanding (@$420 lmaooo tender offer) the equity is valued at $71.3 Bn.

Elon and insiders own ~ 25%

Top 10 institutional holders own ~ 39.4%

They would rollover ~ $46 Bn which leaves us with a $25.3 Bn equity funding gap and about $8 Bn in net debt.

So if the top 10 holders decide to roll over pretty boy Elon only needs to go seek out roughly $30 billion. Pretty damn easy in this market environment. Do you think the recent Tesla - China gigafactory was just coincidence? There's lots of money in china and lots of sovereign wealth funds that could easily eat up the $30Bn funding gap. Tesla $420 EOY

Elon and Larry page could do it just the two of them. Don't even have to go past that. He has been shopping for a year for a take private buyer according to what softbank has said.

The question do you think he found something or is lying. Bears have created the image of a fraudster quack in their mind for who elon is. Bulls believe him.

It doesn't matter if it's easily possible or not. They will just find some reason why it cant happen because big banks didn't know.

For all the bulls/bears. It just takes 1 bull entity that has the money and there are lots of places with the money. You are betting none made a deal with elon.

I think the question is 2 fold: Has he asked the top institutional holders to roll their equity AND has he secured funding (not inked but soft pledges) for the funding gap. I don't think Elon is putting more money in this. Kek, big banks are retards (t. work at one). We have exposure to Tesla debt and these retards were sitting around saying shit that people in this thread, stocktwits, twitter etc. were saying. None of them did the math to see if it was a possibility or not. My point is that ordinary people give us bankers WAY too much credit.

Begs the question, why now? And why at a premium? I can understand institutions getting bullied because they dont want to lose their investments but theres no reason for someone to tie up 30bil in a company that isn't going to make any money for years. And all it takes is 1 institution to go "nah, fuck you" and the whole thing explodes.

I said this on the 27th on an smg thread

Elon wasnt pumping with the 5k a week push. He was doing it to prove to some other entity they could do production. What we thought of as a pump of stock price, was really him proving to someone else we don't know about or who that he could do it.

Now that they have 5k a week consistent he can flip off the entire market and whoever he had lined up is happy with knowing production is reasonable.

To add to that. Lots of people have this notion that all wall street bankers are incredibly smart and are on top of any and all numbers. That is so far from the case that it cracks me the fuck up on a nightly basis. We have fractured and disjointed servers. Sometimes we're not even sure what our net exposure is to a company b/c one system spits out 1 number while another person on another system that other people don't have access to are telling you another thing. Read any articles on Goldman Sach's internal technology servers and how they are old legacy systems put together with fucking shoe laces. Remember this:

I have a friend who knows the analyst that was on the merger model and guess what?! his associate never checked his work, the VP didn't and the ED and MD didn't either. I'm curious how Musky boy intends to let current shareholders stay on en masse when he takes the company private. I believe the limit is 300 or 500 shareholders at the point of deregistering.
If he was unaware of that rule, I have questions about his use of the phrase "funding secured" to describe a multi-billion dollar deal that apparently no bank has heard of.

Also this place is horrible for giving advice they were shilling HMNY I think when it was 2 bucks or less and nows its like 7 cents, these guys are degenerate gamblers but they give some okay tips on things.

You would be better off watching youtube investment related videos/documentaries and reading books I have been doing this for a year swing trading. Also the news is always late on reporting opportunities, everything is always the opposite or not as it seems.

In addition learn the fundamentals of basic accounting or reading balance sheets/income statements.

I think the biggest thing you should take away is not to invest unless you have an actual reason to invest in something. You should never be "getting lucky" that implies you didn't do your DD. You should either be right because you made a insightful bet or you were wrong.

I could never imagine forgetting something is in my portfolio, that just doesn't happen.
