What should I do with this power-hungry piece of shit? I haven't made anything close to return on investment.

Let's talk about alternatives in mining to proof of work because I'm getting out of gpu shit if I can. Will be posting pictures of the consensus algorithm mining setup I've been working on tonight.

I've got the hardware part of this pretty much built, just getting the chassis put together.

sell it on ebay and try to at least recoup something.

I tried mining, and built a rig of 6 1080ti's. I know the feeling OP.

The concept of consensus algorithm as I understand it is that you're providing idle computing power to the network and being compensated based on metered use.

It hurts. I feel like I'm giving up if I sell it but mining shitcoins and hoping they skyrocket is such a dumb game.

OP the fans make great veggie cutters. You can also try powering it on, moonwalking in socks on a rug and then fingerbanging the GPU board for better performance.

My Skyminer differs a bit from the official one since it uses a PoE switch to power the pi's. Not really because I thought it was a great idea, just that I had some PoE switches leftover from freelance IT work.

It's a four node Skywire. The testnet rewards for July should put me at ~30%, which I'm pretty happy with.

Looking forward to figure out how many coinhours this thing can pull at max capacity in mainnet.

Maybe, I haven't read too much in to it, but it seems maybe more popular than they anticipated, they've got a backlog.

Saw someone posting about an automated whitelist though, so hopefully it's not too long.

And final build shot with better lighting.

Next steps are buying a surge protector with battery backup, then building a wifi antenna so that this thing can operate fully off the grid.

That's the good stuff.

Other methods I've looked at are Proof of Capacity, like sectioning off portions of hard drives which is kind of interesting but I haven't set up an account or dedicated hard drives to it.

I think it's burstcoin that's proof of capacity. I'm not sure how it's better than Amazon Glacier beyond being cheaper and probably less reliable.

>>10507777
This guy's guide is pretty great, but I'd recommend getting something besides Raspberry Pi's, they're a bit underpowered.

https://github.com/BigOokie/SkiPi

Orange Pi Primes are where it's at but they're hard to get sometimes.

>> No.10507975

>>10507808
Mine is around $300 with the Makerbeam XL frame and everything, you could probably get it down to $200 if you skimp.

Here's a parts list for the official miner:
https://skywug.net/forum/Thread-Skywire-Miner-Components-List

Lurk some on Skywug, you can find guides and help to build whatever you want. There's dudes out there with 32 node Skyminers.

>> No.10508158

>>10507836
Legit, orange pi > raspberry. I use orange pi 3 to handle 232 data onto a UDP multicast, much better than raspberry

>>10507808

>> No.10508232

>>10508158
I'm torn between ordering those and being ready for more things or waiting for second generation miners to go on sale. Supposedly they're looking at using custom manufactured hardware, multiple nodes on one board.

>> No.10508284

So, why exactly can't you use a desktop PC to mine this? Even consumer grade octacore CPUs should have way higher performance than Pi's.

>> No.10508315

>>10508284
Mostly because PCs do other things or they crash or get rebooted for software updates or render videos or something intensive.

Dedicated single board computers have about the same upload/download speed as a desktop (bandwidth is the primary function of Skywire) and are much lower power use.

I mean, there's nothing stopping you if you want to go to the trouble of doing such.

Chances are you're going to bottleneck on that single ethernet port on your motherboard while my piece of shit 4x is going to be able to push/pull more internet traffic.

>> No.10508538

try burst if you have a lot of time to tinker only. Also, you will need at least one coin first before you mine and the faucets are always empty... I think you can buy on hitbtc. cool idea but a real pita... storj I hear doesn't pay much, so not worth it.
