Anyone here have an MBA? How useful is it really? 300K starting? Thinking about applying for one.
Tell your experience.

Kek. Maybe 100-150k starting if you graduated from a top tier ivy league, and you're basically a glorified slave in your job for like 5 years. If you don't go top tier ivy league it's a worthless degree.

What are your plans OP? I've been wondering the same thing. Wanted to get a Master's of Healthcare Administration and realized that I don't want to get pigeonholed into healthcare for my whole life, so I looked into the MBA route. I still may go for it but it's all a bit discouraging desu.

This, but I would amend it to include T20 schools as opposed to pure ivies

>135k+bonusing
>t20 non ivy
>just a ppt jockey

I have a bach. In MIS, have been at company 6 yrs.
My boss has MBA, completed online, has been upper management for 7 yrs, been with company 22 yrs.
I make 123k, boss makes 80k. Agree that unless it's from hot shit school it's pointless.

Also to add to this you need to live in a major city which will up your cost of living significantly if you want to make good $. NYC is a good place, enjoy paying minimally $2500/year for a 500 sq foot box to live in and since you'll be playing w/ the big boys you'll have to socialize at expensive places so enjoy paying $100-200 for dinner for yourself regularly. Even at $150k you'll feel poor all the time.

t. guy who left NYC for these exact reasons and now work fucking customer support making 100k in a state with no income taxes and feel like a god compared to my NYC life

Have a bachelor's in English (kek, I know), but want to start making some money. Looking to maybe go into mortgage lending or working with small firms in a not so big city in the southwest US. MBA is diverse, so I wanted to use that to my advantage.

MBA waste of money. Get a low tier job at a bank you're interested in working in and work your way up. You could get to mortgage lending within 1-2 years if you're not a moron since most people working those jobs are. From there get a year or two experience and hop to a better firm.

Top 20 school is a must. Ivy league can have negative connotations.

No one cares where you got your bachelors but your masters matters. It doesn't matter if your masters is done online or in person, the name of the school is the only thing people look at.

I have a masters in finance, and a manager I employ has an MBA, he is 3 years out of a good university with a decent student debt still (not sure how much but he whines about it) but makes 110k currently, up 20k a year from when he was hired plus health insurance for him (not his family)

I have a bachelor's in communication so we aren't very far apart here. I've thought a bit about getting I to mortgaging and banking, but I'm not sure how an MBA could help with that. Just need to figure out if it's worth the time (and if this thread is any indication, most of the time, it ain't)

My friend got into Mortgage Banking with a Masters in Finance. Supposedly making bank atm, but then again, those positions dont necessarily require a master's degree, or any degree, for that matter.
