Saw a post on /biz/ not long a go about some user who did some research on a local billboard and found it was owned by an old man who made bank from it. In my own experience, I know the owner of the local cinema where I live in australia and he has always said the massive billboard above his cinema (on a busy highway intersection) often generates more income than actually revenue from movies tickets per year.

Which makes me wonder is this not a good bizness venture?

Here is what I think I would do. All feedback is appreciated. All I would need is capital to construct a billboard, I would find the right property and offer to construct the billboard and maintain the billboard (this includes managers clients who pay for advertising) for the owner of the property and he would get dividends based of the income generated. Then once it’s paid off, invest in another and just repeat steps.

When you factor in LED screens used as billboards now it’s easy to see how you could generate a lot of passive income once you pay off your initial costs.

Thoughts?

This is the largest billboard company in America. You may notice how shit an investment buying their stock is. https://finance.yahoo.com/chart/CCO

Interesting. I am looking to invest in one as passive income. Once the billboard pays itself off it’s just free income with very little work.

Yeah it's good as long as you don't have anything generic and have girls with big breasts featured on it.

Do you have any evidence to back this up?

No. Don't act like it isn't a good idea though.

I dunno, looks like over the past couple of months it has been a pretty decent range trade.

Its never going to get paid off when considering maintenance and amount of work in finding good advertisers. Especially when considering managing more than one. Your work will grow linearly. This is not passive income if you have to setup and run an entire business around it. The start up costs alone, plus convincing someone to use their land indefinitely, will put you in debt. I would never do this.
