The largest commercially available hard drive is currently 16TB. Help a brainlet out. What happens when the ETH blockchain becomes larger than a hard drive?

you can create filesystems that span multiple hard drives, you can just keep adding more drives to the raid array as needed.

retard.

omfg sell sell sell

>> No.10172251

you'll have to raid drives together which will be dumb

And this is the moment the big blocker finds he fucked up.

so this means BCH actually is bitcoin then? there was no technically valid reason to keep 1MB blocks?

you put in in two hard drives

only archive nodes download full blockchain, normal nodes do not.

if you run a parity main node its only 20GB

>> No.10172300

Larger filesystems will hold the data.

Capacity was never the problem with blockchain scaling though. Bandwidth, availability/block propagation, and the cost of running the nodes will result in fewer Ethereum nodes, bringing us back to centralization.

Larger blocks don't propagate as easily as smaller ones, and shorter block discovery time means more information needs to be propagated. Every decision in engineering has tradeoffs.1MB blocks keep the base layer healthy and distributed while 2nd layer scaling solutions use the limited resource more effectively.

For eth a standard spinning disk hard drive just doesn't cut it, you need an SSD to process all the smart contracts at a pace to even keep up with the transactions in real time much less sync it from scratch. SSD s currently top out at a TB or two. Have fun with your raid. Imagine how large it will be in 10 years. 100 years.

Fortunately we have BCH to experiment with to see how things would have turned out. Forks will fight to the death in our honor.

It would take with the average block size of 0,04mb and the average block time of 15 sevonds in the eth network 190 years to reach 16tb
