so as a long term investor how do you deal with the fact that at a certain point your contributions are such a small percentage of your stack that you are totally at the whim of the market? if you never sell to raise cash you're only able to save cash from your job, and that's slow.

example: say i have 100k portfolio. i think the market is going to dip, so i start saving. by the time it dips i have maybe 5k saved, but more realistically 2k, so i buy somewhere on the dip (obviously not the bottom). the market continues to fall for a while and i average in 1k a month during the fall. seems totally insignificant to me. now imagine the same scenario with 1mil. a job being your only form of investable income seems like a meme, especially the as the ratio of stack size to monthly income gets higher over time

I advise you to take a good look around at 55-60. It looks good as a two year investment max as is. The balance sheet has some unanswered costs that need to be paid in three years.
