Hard forks are awful in practical application for something that's supposed to be a stable currency at some point in the future. Soft forking is the only realistic way to do it and that's just not how BTC works. BTC will also never move off of PoW because the miners control everything and that's what they've invested all their money into

Nah, 1 MB blocksize and lightning is garbage. a $60 payment has a 1% chance of being routed (even though the number of nodes is increasing, the routing probability isn't) I can't see bitcoin being used world-wide in this state. Also, Everytime a channel is opened or closed it settles on the blockchain. A Blocksize increase is absolutely needed for lightning to work.
