What if nothing happens when the mainnet comes online. What if the dump has already happened and the only ones left are hodlers. What if there are real partners and real data being used but it's something not interesting enough to pump it like academia using it.

It’s not so much that you think ahead of these people, it’s that you make decisions in a completely different way. Never underestimate the power of social consensus and safety in numbers. Humans have evolved to be social creatures and form a collective consensus. You are judging link on its substance with little regard for how popular it is or who else thinks it’s a good investment. For most people, even very smart people, this kind of fundamental stuff is subordinate to what the group consensus is, what other people like at the moment, etc. It’s why reddit is always so slow to catch up because they make their decisions through upvoting and consensus, by which point everything is already priced in, or worse overvalued. If you wait for the majority to agree that an investment is good then it’s already too late.

To INTJ types, INTP types, autists, these kind of people, they find it difficult to believe that the world could be so fundamentally irrational. But, again, if everyone thought for themselves then we wouldn’t have evolved to co operate as we do and our species wouldn’t be successful. We are social creatures. Everyone diverges from this groupthink mentality to different degrees - the examples above are the least prone to it. Next, perhaps following the announcement of mainstream partnerships, the next wave of slightly more independent-than-average thinkers (but not quite autistic) will buy in. Then, when people start to pay attention to what these people think, there will be another wave of buyers who have even less capacity for independent thought than those before them.
