I would say it has more to do with hygiene. If we talk about a hundred years ago girl bums weren't as clean as they are today. Today you can be sure that you can pull down any girls pants and its clean enough to not see something unpleasant. That was not always the case. Breasts are easier to wash and therefore were always seen as more clean. Rightfully so. But now that our hygiene is this high it really doesn't matter what somebody is into. Everything is more or less clean.
Also how do you explain the japanese? They also got guys who are into boobs and guys who are into butts. Completely normal you usually see both in a doujin.
Also I would say there is a difference between the taste of white men in butts and the taste of black men. Black men usually are more into bigger means better. No matter how formless the ass is they love it. Whites on the other hand usually have more refined taste.
