Avax has gigabrain devs who are tired of being copied by pajeets so they arent as open about what they are working on. If you look at the shit they are rolling out you know they arent sitting around doing nothing. Patrick O'grady on twitter is your best source for avax development. Basically they just release shit without talking about it much or hyping it up much.

if I run an ICP node on an AWS VPS will Dom lose his shit?

There is literally no way to tell if computation has been performed on a VPS or physical hardware at home. Also, as I said before, as long as it's trivial to switch from VPS to physical hardware then any level of "centralized" AWS fuckery amounts to nothing. Fuckery will just chase away customers to other VPS that don't fuck with people, or customers will just run their own home servers, beefy ones if need be, because risk of losing uptime would be worth more to them than the convenience of a VPS.
You must understand that market mechanisms are in full play here and it's a essentially a frictionless environment very similar to BTC's mining pool situation. If a centralized system can quickly and gracefully fall back into a decentralized system then it's hard to say that system was ever truly centralized at all practically speaking. For example, let's say some of the largest mining pools decides to start abusing their granted hash power and perform a doublespend attack on BTC. The miners in those ming pools would very quickly pull out and within a day move to other more honest mining pools, likely preferring smaller ones as well to avoid future collusion. The mining pools know this as well, so they don't do it. The fact that they exist in this frictionless environment encourages honest behavior, no matter how centralized they look on paper.
