This same thing has happened to me many times. I really do not like the subway/chipotle process, which is why I don't eat there. They have a menu but when you ask for what's on the menu they just reply in half-english. I don't understand what the point of that menu even is if they can't even order it.

Here's a typical interaction I'll have at a fast food place.
>Go into mcdonalds because it seems like it would be faster than waiting in their huge drive through line
>Haven't been in there forever, looks a lot more modern than what I remember
>Order big mac and a milkshake at register
>Woman turns away for a second, not sure if I'm supposed to pay now or when I get my food and she didn't seem to punch anything into register. I don't want to walk away if I'm supposed to pay now, but she seems to be distracted so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do
>"Hi, excuse me, do I pay now or when I get my food?"
>blank stare, woman doesn't seem to speak english
>"Do I pay now or later?" I have my wallet open, no cash value is showing up on the register or anything.
>She says something in spanish to coworker who is also speaking spanish while looking back to me repeatedly
>Someone behind me is asking if they can order
>Two women are now trying to speak to me in spanglish asking me to repeat what I said, maybe 4 times
>"do I pay now or when I get my food?"
>get blank stares back
>gesture with my wallet out with my hand in it, point at register
>"can I pay for my food now?"
Somehow I left with the food and never paid. I don't understand why every time I go into a place like this it's a huge ordeal. I feel like Larry David but 5 times more autistic.
