I will keep it short, this is simply an argument as to why Gold sounds like the answer to our broken monetary system but it most definitely is not, and why bitcoin is.

The problem: Corruption that causes inflation.

The solution: using a form of money limited in supply that is also politically neutral.

Gold:

For us to use Gold again as a payment system we would need to store all of the Gold in central repositories and TRUST that the digital gold transfer service does not go out of business, is not shut down by government or have its accounting records hacked leading to mayhem for users. This also has dramatic limitations when sending money across borders. It just doesnt work.

For us to use Gold again as a monetary system governments would yet again store all of the gold in a central repository and we would have to TRUST that their monetary units are not inflated into oblivion. Hint, trusting politicians is impossible.

Gold requires trust and trust does not scale globally or even locally.

Going back to a gold standard or gold backed payment system does not solve anything, it just opens the door up to start this scam all over again just with new players.

The reason we needed gold to back a currency is to ensure more money is not created out of thin air.
