It depends. The market on average moves up. Options (or leveraged stock) on average also move up, but even more. The catch is the spread (the risk), and the fact that you can never go below zero. Once you go below zero, you lost.

See pic. Even though the curve creeps to the right, more and more of it is to the left of you having zero money, which in turn skew the average towards zero.
