gold is consumed as a resource in electronics.
the speculative value might go down, but finding a bunch of any resource is still a big plus (imagine if it was oil or steel)
sure price goes down a bit if we get a new easy supply but it doesn't go down enough to cancel out the boon completely


if that doesn't help, try and imagine we find a cornucopia of goods in space all at the same time: brand new iphones, F-150's, bud light, catgirls, every kinds of resource you can imagine, etc. We find everything.
does that make everything worthless? no. sure the goods that people have right now will decrease in value a bit, maybe significantly, but there will still be some price that things are exchanged for on the marketplace. and in general, the net wealth of the world has noticeably increased because we found an asteroid covered in nice stuff
