you can try timing it, but the better strategy is usually to DCA. here's an example.
I really like JPM, and I like it under $100, but i don't like buying it above $90. so whenever i'm about to do my periodic buy of JPM, I boost the amount that I buy when it's under $90. I boost it a lot under $85, and I will buy a ton of it under $75. Since i had a bigger pile than i wanted yesterday, I sold some of the JPM that i picked up around $80. does this help?
