Take literally every car sold each year, assume they all had a 60 kWh NMC battery, and add up how many tons of manganese you need. Despite how ridiculous and unrealistic this is, the amount is nothing compared to what goes into steel.

No, they're changing their mid range battery to include manganese, only because it cuts down on the amount of nickel they need because it will actually be in demand. This is the reason why Elon Musk specifically asked miners to produce nickel and not manganese.
