Hi all,
I'm new to investing but I've been brushing up these past couple months from lurking here and checking out recommended educational stuff.

I don't want my career to be investing; I'm going to school right now and i'm going to have a job that I love and will be making great money to boot.

Right now I am in university, 1.5 years to go to finish my degree, but I have some extra cash that I've saved throughout the years. I have $2500 I'd like to put away, where that money can grow for me. I want my money to make me money, you know?

I know that's peanuts to many but its what I've got for now. In my portfolio I have only two buys; some VOO and canadian counterpart VSC (Oh yeah i'm canadian, might matter idk). I get that the market is pretty crazy right now, and I've lost ~100 on that, but that's another question for another day.

I was looking at this http://www.scotiabank.com/ca/common/pdf/investments/Scotia_Accelerated_Rate_GIC_Fact_Sheet_1977911.pdf and I was wondering what everyone's thought are on it. I could put the $2500 in there, but would it be worth it? Do I have better options? I don't really want to be having to check frequently (I could do it a couple times a month) and i've heard ETFs are the shiz for that. That's what I thought I was buying with the VOO. ETFs with where i'm doing my trading the minimum contribution is like $5000. The ones where I could contribute I don't really like the looks of.

All in all, can someone tell me if I'm on the right track, what I've done right, and what i'm doing wrong.
