Peloponnesian War by Thucydides (this is a long endeavor but honestly one of my favorites, shows that political realism and war has not changed to this day. Thucydides is the first realist historian).
Plato obviously.
Aristotle's Ethics.
Aristophanes has some great parody plays that still apply to contemporary things. Among the things he mocks are communism, empire-builders, idealist philosophers

Lucian is a great counter-part to Aristophanes from the Romans.
Plutarch's Lives: This is a MUST. Will get you up to date on all the famous people from Greek times and he finds a parallel in his own, Roman times. Full of good anecdotes and a window in how the ancients really thought.
Ovid's Metamorphoses, again mainly as an overview of myths you may not know.

Also I highly recommend the works of Gene Wolfe, he's a catholic writer who has incorporated Greek myths into his christian worldview. Especially Latro of the Mist, although it can be difficult for the uninitiated.
