one of my favorite detecting stories involves 4chan, maybe somebody itt.

years back I was detecting in a dirt road. The road is relatively new, it went in in 1893. They ran it right through some older house foundations. So I get a good signal under a rock slab in the dirt road. I pull up the rock and find an 1856 seated half. The rock slab is almost a foot thick and about a meter across. It's part of an old house foundation, the SE corner of the house.

So I'm telling this story on /pmg/ or /out/ and some anon tells me that masons used to do that. Put a coin under the SE corner of a house they built. So this isn't just some rando coin lost in the 1860's, it's evidence of Masonic activity at that time.

Stuff like that is cool. Not just the coin, which isn't worth a lot of money, but the story it tells.
