If you buy a house you also have to pay 3.5% of the price in taxes. You burgers are often complaing but you have really NO idea how fucking taxed to death people that work and own things here in western europe are, especially Austria. 20% VAT (on cars it's 36-50%), insane engine taxes (for my 3l diesel I pay 1k€ a year), inheritance taxes etc.
Honestly I would keep renting until you can pay the apartment cash and meanwhile try to invest the money solid. Since you are not sure if you're going to have to switch jobs a rural house could end up as a big burden/money sink.
But again in the end it's completely up to you to weigh the risk.
