The really small ones be expensive, but it depends more on the coin than the weight.
I'd be looking for something relatively small but reasonably priced in you region.
Sovereign, Kronen, Vreneli, Pesos etc. depending on the local market.
In the 1/2 oz range there are also some nice ones that feel large for the gold content, e.g. the chile pesos feels good in the hand in spite of the low gold-weight.
Difference in price per ounce will be huge for smaller coins, some don't have much of a premium compared to the ounce, others are ridiculously expensive.
e.g. European price-comparison sorted by premium.
