Since people are posting about their life experiences I guess I'll ask here.
>why are you asking 4chan instead of your parents?
All they give me is the usual "just follow your heart" bullshit, I want to hear your personal experiences.

I'm 19 and this is my last year of high school, I have a choice between two different degrees.
My two choices are biochemistry/biotechnology and computer science. I live in a poor EU country, hoping to move west.
Is it true that working as a researcher pays like shit? I really enjoy both subjects, but with the world turning upside down I don't want to be caught poor. Working to change-da-wurld isn't really fulfilling if you just barely scrape by, day by day. But I also don't want to be the guy who sold his soul for money. I have straight As in everything so my only limitation is what I want to do.

Computer science and biochemistry anons, what has been your experience?
