A debt ceiling collision would mean that Yellen drags Congress into a room and tells them that nobody’s leaving until spending matches revenue (picrel pie gets ~60% of its area removed), they get to decide what stays and defend that decision to the public, and until they pick something /everything/ is defunded. That isn’t “unpopular” territory, that’s “every inner city burns to the ground while the entire population of Florida and Arizona storm the Capitol building all at once” territory
