$HAL is a very corrupt company anyways, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there were larger forces behind the scenes influencing the prices to their own bidding. It's one of those stocks people say "stay the fuck away" to but most people knew there was no way Cheney was going to let Halliburton go to the shitter. Personally if you're going long I still think HAL is a fine bet to DCA with right now.

If this thing carries on for too much longer, we're going to "re-open the economy" and nothing is going to happen.

this is the case for call and put contracts.
if you buy the option, you can chose whether to execute or not. so worst case, you chose not to execute, and you just lose the money you spent on the contracts.

there are non-exchange exotic types of options that you can use to lose much, much more money, but you need to lose a certain amount with the "standard" pedestrian contracts before you get access to the elite ultra-high risk stuff.

I generally tend to exit an option at -100% profits (sometimes, > +100%)
that's why I don't mess with options anymore

to be a little more explicit about one point:
to buy VTSAX I think you need to have a vanguard account. You can buy VTI on any broker, such as Robinhood. But making a Vanguard account is pretty easy, so I wouldn't really call one "harder" than the other.
Considering how nice it is to be able to buy such an index fund with low fees, both choices are very easy and convenient.
It is something that we should be very thankful for, and not take for granted. So many people in the world don't have access to a stock market at all. Many more only have access to inferior stock markets. Only in the US do we have such easy and straightforward access to high quality stocks. And these days you can buy the highest quality stock indices that the world has ever seen, commission free and instantly, from your cell phone! It's insane.

I have more experience with monte-carlo than anyone in these threads probably.
I also have above-average knowledge of general computer simulation stuff, math, and game theory. some of our posters might be better with some of that stuff, who knows ~
