Get a real broker that lets you open a USD side so you can do Norbert's gambit (so no exchange rate fee, just commission fees. DLR.TO is a commission free "ETF" with some brokers). Or to a broker where their currency conversion is based on their forex platform so you literally just pay a commission fee and convert to the real value both ways, e.g. IBKR pic related
