The real starter stack is just an extra week or two of the non-perishables you already eat. Pancake mix, tomato soup, whatever it might be. Eventually you can expand into things like pic related. When you go for the freeze dried food and are comparing between sources, the key factor is how many calories you're getting per dollar. A lot of the patriot supply type sellers aren't really competitive with the likes of Sam's Club or Costco if they're in stock.

I think I currently have a year and a half of freeze dried stuff on top of a couple hundred pounds of basic components like flour and oatmeal.
