if you want to maximize gains, wait until robots are doing every service for everyone and most companies are leaning out staff that do backend processes and things are being automated. when you turn on the news and a robot is telling you about how much automation has changed society and what it means for humans, thats when you might start thinking about selling... that is, if there isn't some kind of link staking product that makes it more profitable long term to rent out your link to a node than it is to sell. sergey himself said that hopefully one day people will be using link on mars in a fireside chat. so perhaps link will be a gift that gives in more than one ways.

but overall its a safe bet to begin selling when the internet of things is fleshed out, but hoping we'll catch others waves in the future though.
