it's not even at the level min/maxing
it's like, most skills that kids have these days they can get better just by doing whatever it is
not like, "oh, my dps is falling behind the curve a little bit, I need to min/max more to optimize it" or something.
But like, completely trying to systematically learn and master something primal, raw, and chaotic
most zoomers/millenials just expect that if they do something, they will continuously get better at it, because that is the way that the world is laid out for them by parents/teachers/internet
the stock market is wildly different. BUT BUT there are no warning labels to tell them that. So they expect that it will all just fall into place if they spend enough time on it.
not even trying to hate, I'm a millennial too
But the fact is, the stock market is completely different;
the truest truth about price movement, is that any axiom you might create to predict it, will be wrong.

>JPM, it looks like they were at the root of the repo crisis
source?

you should at least browse ZH in your morning run-through of headlines.
Don't take all their articles "seriously" but understand what the general atmosphere of the site is like on a give week.
understand that some of their users take it pretty seriously. also it's very interesting to get a tab on boomer sentiment in the comments. they used to be very "Ron Paul" back in the earlier parts of this decade, now they are more vitriolic.

yeah this is so true, it's really important to know

basically the short take is:
the stock market is the biggest game in town. There are thousands of corporations and hundreds of thousands of traders competing for trillions of dollars.
So you aren't just going to get the information needed to consistently beat the market(s) from a couple posts on /biz/, or watching a couple dozen youtube videos.

It's a combination of knowledge, discipline, hard work, and controlling your emotions. Just like every other discipline really, but if you want to 'win' in the 'stock market' on the short term the requirements are inhuman. Like you need a couple hundred cores, algos that you worked on for years, and a variety of drugs unless you were born superhuman.
or, just gotta feel it. gotta make it happen.

tell me about what books you've ever read that you really liked (any genre)

you are like 2 decades to give up on K2, if that is what you really want
you could summit in early Aug 2021 or 2022 if you really want it and are willing to wait for the weather.
Just another big icy hole in the sky

it's true
sector moves and index moves didn't have such a large impact on individual stock price back 10, 20 years ago.
Now that everything is indexed and ETF'd, lots of the price movement just happens because of higher-level consolidated equity instruments, not direct choices to buy and sell the underlying.
It will continue to be this way. It's sort of a double-edged sword in the short/mid term time frames because a stock can get an undeserved bump or dump. In the long term the effect will be less.
