The cNFT prototype that Gilles is going to discuss during his speech at EthCC will change NFTs forever.
NFTs aren't meant to be public. They are meant to keep data private even through execution and sharing. Think: Decentralized IDs. You will be able to KYC an exchange without the exchange actually viewing (and storing) your information. The identification will still be verified, but without the risk of it being sold to some fancy Nigerian.

nothing has been developed or released in 2 years besides the broken oracle factory. theyre even paying a $5k bounty for someone to fix it and add a search bar.
