Incoming advice blog. I already own my house with 200k left on mortgage. Make a shitty 50k a year. I like where I live in the city. It’s convenient in a very nice neighborhood. My dad wants me to move into the sticks 45 mins away and says I can build a mobile home on his property that he would eventually move into and my family would stay in the house. He’s already 75 and could have a stroke at any moment according to doctors. I could basically erase all my debt by selling my house but the catch is I need to build the mobile home. I pocket 100k and live in the farm house rent free. It would add an extra 90 minutes of driving each day and eventually I would need to take care of parents when I can’t even take care of my own self or family. All I’m good at is bringing a paycheck. He keeps hounding me about a free home basically and I’m totally dragging my feet making excuses. I could quit my job if I did this! My wife can’t stand my parents and they kinda drive me nuts too. What would you do?

I stopped caring about my parents' opinion of my life. That's not to say that I don't love them, or think that they haven't always cared for me in spite of the baggage that they gave me, but we just have fundamentally different values and outlooks on the world. They've just been trying their best to help me without being overbearing. For most parents, they just want to help without intruding on your life.
You should not feel bad for the expectations that your parents place on you, for underachieving or overachieving. You are your own person, and you deserve the opportunity to chart your own course in life even if it means occasionally stumbling and falling. Good parents will catch you when you fall.

Things legitimately do get better, if you put in the work. That's not a meme. It might not be in the ways that you expect, but it does get better.

The whole gme debacle has brought to my attention a new understanding, and I would like to articulate this newly founded lesson in this post. Now the main difference between 4chan and reddit is the account and upvote systems. You see those are your basic dopamine recoptor trainers, all popular applications have them. Now it's all fun and games to have a big chunk of your decision making influenced by whatever your input is, everyone makes decisions based on their life experience and the various stimuli present in the surrounding systems inhabited by each individual be they virtual or not. But there also lies an individual voice, a (you) so to speak, so precious that trillions of dollars and human labor is spent in trying to influence and shift (you) into whatever is required of you.

Watching so many posts about people being deluded into holding gme from redditors has made me realise how important this place is. Whatever your opinion of this site is, the truth is simple; this place is where opinions, experiences and knowledge spanning a very broad spectrum of various criteria clashes into each other in a gladiator pit.
