They are removing a bunch of garbage and restoring OP_codes Core removed. The protocol is complete and it'll scale as intended. There won't be need for anymore upgrades or forks after Genesis outside bug fixes. If BTC EVER hopes to scale even a little bit they are going to have to fork.
