american infrastructure basically hit a wall in the 90s/00s after enough local and federal government involvement became required to ensure that literally fucking nothing ever happens. even if it got all the approval needed to start, a big project like a japan-tier maglev train would get twice as much funding as it actually needed, then, if we're being optimistic, get a quarter of it done before running out of money thanks to corruption siphoning cash out of the project and needing more funding. california is a great example of this. it took billions of dollars and about 15 years of bullshit to START construction on a bullet train with 800 miles of track, and now it's basically cancelled unless the federal government comes in and gives more money. now imagine this, spanning as many states as you would need to go from CA to NY with all their own rules and leeches ready to take a piece of the pie. completely fucked

i'll believe it when it actually goes through. it's political suicide in american politics to actually follow through on an issue that attracts single-issue voters, especially a few months out from an election, though i assume this isn't going anywhere until after midterms. if it goes through, i'm happy for you guys who get it. i paid my shit off about 6 years ago and it sucked
