Question for the XRP schizos

I've done my own research and everything check out except this one.
What's the prevent ripple from creating a fork of XRP and getting the banks to use that for ODL. Although ripple may have already distributed XRP to banks, I have a hard time believing the banks will buy the bags of early investors the 2k meme price per XRP. This is not a fud, I may simply be missing a part of the puzzle. What are all your thoughts on this?
