Have you heard anything of omega 3:6 ratios? For context I did my homework on this several years ago when I decided to start taking omega 3s, so I don't remember my sources anymore. But what I had read was that an ancient human diet would have roughly equal levels of omega 3 and 6, from natural sources (fish, nuts, animals, etc). Compared to the SAD diet, where people who live inland might not consume natural fresh seafood in any form at all (thus getting 0 - .5 grams of omega 3 +EPA/DHA), and consume plenty of chicken, nuts, and grains which all contain high amounts of omega 6. We're talking about an omega 6:omega 3 ratio like 1:15, 1:20 or worse. From what I remember, a lot of the negatives you speak of surrounding PUFAs sound a lot like problems associated with getting too much of the 6 and not enough of the 3. Diets high in natural seafood and fermented foods (see SEA regions) have ratios a lot closer to 1:1, and those populations have reduced levels of those inflammations and cancers.

Think about it: our bodies weren't meant to be fed by 80% grain/corn/beans, but those are filler ingredients in snack foods and cooking oils, AND the sole food item that our beef and poultry livestock are fed. Grass fed beef has a much more even omega ratio than corn fed beef, and people who have access to fresh seafood have a much more balanced diet than inland diets that eat chicken 5 days a week.
