In mid February I started working as a BDC rep at a Buick/GMC dealership. Honestly, I am enjoying it; my coworkers are fantastic. I am on the sales side, and the salesmen at the dealership really seem to appreciate what I and my teammate do for them; there have been times when I merely sent an email to one of their previous clients—with no response—and 3 weeks later when they renew their lease, the salesman tells me “I’m giving you credit for this.”

Although I enjoy it, I do not want to waste my time. Last week my manager said to me, “give me 36 months to teach you, and you will dominate any industry you want.” I have a BA in Environmental Studies—I chose not to pursue an environmental career yet as I could realistically only hope to be a technician, which doesn’t appeal to me (I enjoy working with customers as much as I enjoy natural sciences)—so I know that I have many options. Will this really give me a lot of career options in the future, or should I try to find another job in a few months? I truly enjoy the automotive industry.
