the issue is that 90% of the jobs are in geotech/environmental, which are geology adjacent at best. they hide this fact from bright eyed undergrads and push the idea that geo is only looking at cool volcanos, mapping interesting formations, and identifying minerals/faults. they do this to keep the numbers up in the geo programs (which are usually struggling) because if they were honest about job prospects everyone would quit.
