I consider '16 and '17 to be stable for modern US equity markets
I don't think it's realistic to expect things to be more stable than that for very long

The institutions in Europe don't foster or encourage innovation
There is a reason that there aren't any European FAANG companies, nothing high tech, just companies that make cars and planes.
And you know what, the only way that the EU can interact with companies like Google and Apple is to buy their products and fine them. Not to actually grow innovative companies like that in Europe.

I work for a European company and I meet a bunch of engineers and scientists from Europe who now work in the US.

Europe has a regulation problem and a vision problem. They see a company like google or something and they are horrified to see a company doing new things that they can't micromanage and regulate every bit of it.

It won't change or get better until they have a full shake-up and paradigm shift. The business-government relationship in Europe is not healthy or efficient in the 21st century. Their companies are largely mismanaged. The only successful companies they have are fashion companies and airplanes and boat manufacturers, even their auto industry is struggling now
Europe is fucked and some of them know it
